After He Passed is a series where I gain knowledge about family members that are no longer here. I documented the home that was left behind by my deceased Grandfather - a home that he co-habited with his mother before she passed, and for many years after her passing. I photographed the rooms and belongings within as a way to preserve them. Through these photographs, I create a biography – one full of meaningless, everyday details, that would otherwise go unnoticed. Complete with aspects of my Grandfather’s story and the story of his mother’s before him that would likely remain untold and thus forgotten.
These works in particular, are digital photographs that are transferred onto wood. The material that I have chosen to work with symbolizes the physicality of the objects and places that are no longer available to me. I create an image that becomes more than a print on a wall, but a replacement for these objects that I do not have anymore. It is through this process that I gain knowledge about family members that are no longer here.
